People who have never been to a big city other than their own know how scary it can be. Will I be safe? This is the question that comes to mind most often. How am I going to get around? What if something bad happens?
So, what do you know? You might think the world is scary, but it’s not! There are many exciting things to do, and some might be closer to home than you think.
As a Travel lover, I used to think that travel was something that could only happen outside of my own country to other country. I just recently realized how wrong I was. There is so much to see and explore within the country itself.
Since then, I’ve learned to enjoy traveling alone within a country. I’ve been to many cities in many states and picked my top five. Any brave single traveler would be well advised to explore these beautiful cities alone.

Chicago

Solo travelers who like music and thrills in moderation will find much to do in the “Windy City.”
Navy Pier is the place to have fun. There is a big Ferris wheel that looks out over Lake Michigan. The water in Lake Michigan is so blue because of natural algae that you feel like you are close to the Caribbean. There are a lot of people and security at Navy Pier. So, you will be safe, and there’s a good chance you’ll also meet other solo travelers.
On a ferry ride, visitors can see some of Chicago’s oldest and newest buildings. Try some of Chicago’s famous deep-dish pizza first, however, before you take the boat trip. The pizza is really good!
Also not too far away is the Willis Tower, also known as the Sears Tower. It is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can see the whole city from the top on a clear day. It’s also not too far from the John Hancock Building, which now has TILT, an attraction that tilts you more than 1,000 feet above Chicago.
New Orleans
Solo travelers who know how to get around are safe in this city.
I think it is one of the most magical cities in the United States. There are music festivals, like The Pure Music Festival, which is my favorite. There is also great food!
You must go to The Court of Two Sisters if you go to New Orleans. You will be glad you did it. It’s hard to explain how they cook their sweet potatoes.
New Orleans is also a fun place to go to a party. You will have a great time if you stay in populated areas and don’t wander off into empty side streets.
You can go on swamp tours and visit haunted houses at night, but you can also go to a Gospel Brunch with free mimosas and play Hand Grenades along the Riverwalk.
DC, Washington
Washington is rich in history and is the capital of the United States. It also has a huge number of things to see and do.
DC has a lot to offer, from its great museums to the Lincoln Memorial to a nice walk by the White House or the Washington Monument.
My favorite is the freshly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. To receive a free ticket to this museum, you may need to make arrangements months in advance, but you’ll be amazed by the inside history.
The museum demonstrates the progress achieved by African-Americans in the US and the many contributions they have given to humanity both before and after enslavement.
On the brighter side are several entertaining museums, like the Newseum and the Space Museum. The metro makes it easy to get to all of the Smithsonian museums.
Miami
The beaches and nightclubs of Miami are well-known, but the city is also a cultural oasis. A rental car is the best way to get around Miami.
Go by car to Calle 8. On Calle Ocho, you can find a Cuban Museum, great salsa clubs, and cigar shops where you can learn how to make a Cubano. If you like dominos, you can also go to Domino Park and play a game or two with some of “Los viejos.” Little Haiti has a great history museum and the best-fried conch in all of Florida at a creole restaurant.
The art scene in Miami is also very big. Wynwood is like a “graffiti town.” There are so many beautiful murals in the neighborhood that you won’t want to blink!
New York City
New York is one of the safest cities for people traveling alone.
With more than 20 subway lines and 200 bus routes, it’s easy to get to any city’s neighborhood, the main attraction, or an interesting place.
Never forget how much there is to see and do in New York. Even people who are already used to the sights and sounds of the city can always find something new and cool to do.
When it’s summer, you can ride a Jet Ski. It’s a unique way to see places like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island that are important to the city’s history.
Party boats can also be found online at some great prices. Enjoy great music as you cruise around the East River with people you don’t know. Even now, when I hear music and see the lights of the city at the same time, I feel happy.
Spend a day at the Bronx Zoo, which just unveiled a 400-foot zip-lining and climbing adventure, enjoy some fantastic concerts on Governor’s Island, go for a trek through the Cloisters, or take in some culture.
A helicopter trip above the Big Apple was one of my most cherished New York memories. Even though I’m not a big baseball fan, it’s strange to look over the top of Yankee Stadium. It should be on everyone’s list of things to do.
